Tell Me More: Mizrahi Poetry & Activism

November 10 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm EST

Join us for an evening of contemporary Mizrachi poetry and activism over dinner and drinks! We will be reading works from the Mizrachi* activist poetry collective Ars Poetica, and then exploring the current social struggles Mizrachi activists are fighting for today in Israel. We will focus on the work of Achoti, a grassroots Mizrachi feminist movement and NIF grantee, and will learn about how Achoti activists were instrumental in recently stopping the deportation of African asylum seekers in Israel.

Facilitated by Tamar Zaken, Interim Director of New Generations with New Israel Fund. Tamar is an educator and community worker who believes that the stories of all community members need to be heard to create a vibrant and engaged Jewish community for this generation and for those to come. In her spare time, Tamar translates Sephardic Rabbinic texts to expose English speaking audiences to their inspiring message of inclusion and justice

*Mizrahi means “eastern” in Hebrew and is a term to describe Jews from Arab and Muslim countries.
